Welcome to Defiant Hair! We know visiting a new salon can feel a little intimidating, so we wanted to give you a quick idea of what to expect.
Defiant Hair is an appointment only, stylist led salon. Because we don't have a traditional front desk or receptionist, your stylist may be finishing up with another guest when you arrive. Don't worry—we know you're here and will greet you as soon as we're able!
Once you arrive, we'll offer you a beverage and get you settled in. Feel free to relax, browse our vintage shop, or simply make yourself comfortable while you wait.
Every appointment begins with a thorough consultation. We want to understand your goals, your lifestyle, your hair history, and any concerns you may have before we begin. The more information you share with us, the better we can tailor your experience and create a result you'll love.
We're a small, creative, community-focused salon and strive to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and seen. If you have accessibility needs, sensory concerns, preferred pronouns, or anything else that would help us make your visit more comfortable, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Is Bubba really as cute as he looks in the photos?
Yes. Unfortunately for the rest of us, he’s also aware of it.
Can I browse the vintage shop while I’m waiting?
Absolutely. Feel free to look around while you wait for your appointment or processing time.
What if I don’t know how to describe what I want?
Don’t stress. Bring inspiration photos, screenshots, Pinterest boards, or even just a general vibe. We’ll help you figure it out.
What if I’m socially awkward?
You’ll fit right in!!
What if I don’t feel like talking?
No problem. Some clients come to chat, some come to relax, and some come to stare into space while we make them look amazing.
Is Defiant Hair LGBTQIA+ friendly?
Absolutely. We strive to create a space where everyone feels welcome, respected, and comfortable being themselves.
Will I be judged if I cut my own bangs?
No. It’s your hair and you have the right. We enjoy a good project!
What if my hair is a complete disaster?
We’ve seen things. Truly. You’re safe here.
Can I bring snacks?
Of course! But we always have extra snacks and drinks on hand if needed.
Why is there a vintage shop in the salon?
Because our creativity doesn't stop at hair!
We've always been drawn to beautiful things, unique personal style, and giving old treasures a second life. Fashion and hair have always gone hand in hand for us, and combining the two felt like a natural fit.
In addition to creating hair, we love styling vintage fashion, producing creative photoshoots, hosting vintage markets, and building community through events. The shop is simply another extension of the creative world we've built at Defiant Hair, a place where self-expression, sustainability, and individuality come together.
Salon Dog
Defiant Hair is home to Tyrone (Bubba) our 5 pound Pomeranian and unofficial greeter. While many clients enjoy his presence, we understand that not everyone is comfortable around dogs.
If you have allergies, fears, sensory concerns, or simply prefer a dog free appointment, please let us know when booking or upon arrival. We are happy to keep Bubba separated from the salon area during your visit whenever possible.
Our goal is to create a comfortable experience for everyone, and we're always happy to accommodate reasonable requests.
Parking, Arrival & Accessibility
Defiant Hair is located in Flemington Borough, a charming small town that is currently experiencing a lot of growth and redevelopment. While we're excited to see the area thriving, ongoing construction and limited downtown parking can occasionally make arrival times a little unpredictable.
We have a small parking lot directly in front of the salon, as well as additional street parking and public parking nearby. There is also a large municipal lot within walking distance. We recommend allowing a few extra minutes before your appointment to account for parking, construction, and getting settled.
Defiant Hair is fully handicapped accessible. We have a ramp available for the single step into the building as well as the two steps leading up to our shampoo area, allowing us to comfortably accommodate guests with mobility needs.
If you have accessibility needs or require accessible parking, please let us know before your appointment. We are happy to reserve the front parking area whenever possible and will do our best to make your visit comfortable, welcoming, and accessible. If there's anything we can do to help make your experience easier, we're always happy to accommodate whenever possible.

Please note: While our address is 3 Fulper Road, Flemington, NJ 08822, some versions of Apple Maps may not recognize it correctly and may direct visitors to the wrong end of Fulper Road. If you're using Apple Maps and have trouble locating us, try entering 30 Fulper Road instead, which will bring you much closer to the salon. Google Maps generally navigates to our location without issue.
Guests & Children
Defiant Hair is a small, appointment only studio designed to provide a personalized and relaxing experience for every guest.
Because our space is limited and contains professional tools, chemicals, hot styling equipment, sharp objects, breakable merchandise, and vintage retail displays, we ask that children not accompany clients to appointments unless they are receiving a service themselves.
We also ask that guests attend appointments solo whenever possible. Our seating is reserved for clients receiving services, and we have limited space to comfortably accommodate additional visitors.
We understand that every situation is different. If you require a support person, caregiver, interpreter, or other accommodation, please reach out before your appointment and we'll do our best to make arrangements.
